It is also alleged that Praveen Raut cheated the people living in Patra Chaw.
Who is Pravin Raut?
If we talk about the case in which notice has been given to Sanjay Raut, then it is Praveen Raut and Patra Chawl land case. According to the India Today report, the ED had earlier attached assets worth Rs 2 crore of Sanjay Raut’s wife. Apart from this, assets worth Rs 9 crore of Praveen Raut were attached during that time. At the same time, the ED probing the Patra Chawl land scam case came to know in February that Praveen Raut had paid Rs 55 lakh to Varsha from his wife’s account. The ED also said that hotel accommodation and tickets were booked for domestic and international travel of Sanjay Raut and his associates.

It is said that the company that got the job had to build 3000 flats, out of which 672 flats were to be given to the tenant here. But the work did not go as per rules and many parts of the plot were sent to other private builders. The property attached by the ED includes 8 plots of land owned by Praveen Raut in Alibaug and one flat of Varsha Raut. Praveen Raut has already been arrested in this case.
Patra Chawl land scam case
The ED officials visited his residence after he skipped its summons twice in the case linked to alleged irregularities in the re-development of a Mumbai ‘chawl’ and related financial transactions involving his wife and alleged associates.
The Shiv Sena leader was summoned by the probe agency on 27 July after he skipped an earlier summon citing the ongoing Parliament session in Delhi.
The Rajya Sabha MP, who is in the Uddhav Thackeray camp, had denied any wrongdoing and alleged that he was being targeted due to political vendetta.
In April this year, the ED had attached immovable properties worth Rs 11.15 crore, including a flat at Dadar, held by Raut’s wife Varsha and eight land parcels at Kihim near Alibag, jointly held by the latter with Swapna Patkar, in connection with the redevelopment scam. Swapna is the wife of Sujit Patkar, a close associate of the Sena leader.
The federal agency said its investigation revealed that around Rs 100 crore was transferred from the real estate company, HDIL, to the account of Pravin Raut, who in turn diverted part of these funds to various accounts of his close associates, family members, and business entities.
Praveen Raut has been a director in an infrastructure company called Guruashish constructions and is stated to be a subsidiary of the HDIL (Housing Development Infrastructure Limited), an accused in the case. Pravin Raut was arrested in the past by the Maharashtra police’s economic offences wing.
Praveen Raut was arrested by Mumbai Police in February 2020 under several criminal sections. Praveen Raut’s construction company is also said to be one of the masks of the main accused in the PMC scam. According to ED sources, Praveen Raut was alleged to have entered into an agreement with his company by the Maharashtra Housing Development Corporation (MHADA). Along with this, he was asked to give more than 600 flats to the displaced. But it is alleged that Praveen Raut’s company sold these flats by ignoring all the rules and regulations.
When Praveen’s closeness came to know from the Wadhawan brothers, the ED started a thorough investigation into the matter and during this time it came to know that Rs 55 lakh was given by Praveen Raut and his wife Madhuri to Varsha Raut, wife of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut.
